Boldly Go! | Romantic Places to Elope in the Carolinas

The Carolinas… Where the “great outdoors” meets some good old fashion Southern Charm. North and South Carolina is an “outdoorsy” type’s dream; both states have beautiful mountain ranges, beaches, and wide open spaces that have already captured the hearts of many.

The Carolinas are made for romantic, outdoor adventures for couples that are looking for it. I’m going to share some of the most beautiful locations to elope in North and South Carolina.

Our first stop is one of my favorite elopement venues in the entire world, The Mast Farm Inn. Located in Banner Elk, North Carolina, The Mast Farm Inn is a country-style bed and breakfast with gorgeous views of the surrounding woods and its own farm (adorable farm animals included). When it comes to romance and the great outdoors (and an awesome elopement package), The Mast Farm is perfect.

Next on the list is a place that is really popular and after seeing the photography from elopements out there, it’s no wonder why. Craggy Gardens, overlooking The Blue Ridge Parkway, has to be one of the most beautiful elopement locations in the U.S.. Craggy Gardens (not far from Downtown Asheville) gives you a perfect view the majestic Blue Ridge Parkway. Imagine being surrounded by nothing but this vast mountain rang with it bluish-green (or sometimes gray) haze, as far as the eye can see, while you exchange vows with the one you love… Oh be still my beating heart!

Sherry and Drew enjoy a private ceremony in historic Downtown Charleston.

Moving south, our next stop is Historic District of Downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Made up of historic land marks (The Holy City), cobbles streets (The French Quarter), and a gorgeous harbor (Charleston Harbor), the Historic District is charming, rustic, and alive with history. Perfect for couples that wants the beauty of the past, the Historic District of Downtown Charleston is waiting to play the backdrop to your elopement.

Last, but surely not least is the Fred W. Symmes Chapel in Cleveland, South Carolina. Owned by YMCA Camp Greenville, Symmes Chapel (also known as the “Pretty Place”) is small chapel that has the most breathtaking view of Cedar Mountain. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a large, panoramic view of the Cedar Mountain that can only be described as “awe-inspiring”. But you’re not just getting a beautiful location with Symmes Chapel; the fees for use of Symmes Chapel are used for camperships (scholarships for campers) that help children to experiencing camping through YMCA Camp (more about that here). So with Fred W. Symmes Chapel you get to do more than just elope with beautiful view, you’re also helping child experience the great outdoors… And that’s awesome.

North and South Carolina are made up of so many beautiful locations. It doesn’t matter if you are looking something charming, steeped in history, or captures nature and all her glory, the Carolinas will surely please!
