Locust Dale, Virginia
We chose [The Inn at Meander Plantation in Locust Dale, Virginia] because it’s within an hour of where we live in Charlottesville, VA so we could travel there easily. It was nice to live nearby so we already knew where to get our flowers, my hair, and makeup done, and close enough that our two close friends could join us to help out. They also had a beautiful property with an affordable elopement package and had the perfect space in the “Summer Kitchen” suite to get ready and stay overnight after the ceremony.
Being in our 30’s already, it was more important for us to save our money to be able to buy a home and start a family than spending an astronomical amount of money to have our two large families join us for one day. Without other financial help, we were on our own and we appreciated the surprise of eloping, the financially appealing aspect of it, and the intimacy of sharing vows with just two other people in attendance.
We loved the intimacy of it and the fact we still dressed up and made it feel like a real wedding still. Although it ended up being a bit hot for an October day, the weather was perfect, the leaves were a great color, and it made for beautiful photos. We love the outdoors, so one thing that we really wanted at our elopement was to have the mountains somewhere in our photos. Our engagement photos also involved mountains so we wanted to keep that going. We also loved the “We Eloped” sign we got off of Etsy! It was a fun touch to our pictures!
